Frequently Asked Questions

For Australian residents: $0-$18,200 is tax-free, $18,201-$45,000 is taxed at 16%, $45,001-$135,000 at 30%, $135,001-$190,000 at 37%, and income over $190,000 at 45%. These rates do not include the 2% Medicare levy. They reflect the Stage 3 tax cuts effective from 1 July 2024.
From 1 July 2025, the Superannuation Guarantee rate is 12% of your ordinary time earnings. This is paid by your employer on top of your salary. Some employers may include super within your total salary package — check your employment contract.
From 2025-26, HECS/HELP uses a new marginal repayment system. You only repay on income above $67,000 (up from $54,435). The rate is 15 cents per dollar above $67,000 up to $125,000, then $8,700 plus 17 cents per dollar above $125,000, up to a max of 10% of total income for incomes above $179,285.
The Medicare levy is 2% of your taxable income, funding Australia's public health system. Most Australian residents pay it. If you earn less than $26,000, you may pay reduced or no levy. Low-income phase-in applies between $26,000 and $32,500.
The LITO is a tax offset of up to $700 for individuals earning up to $37,500. It reduces gradually between $37,500 and $45,000 at 5 cents per dollar, then between $45,000 and $66,667 at 1.5 cents per dollar, reaching zero at $66,667.
Our calculator uses official ATO formulas and 2025-2026 tax rates for close estimates. Individual circumstances may vary. We recommend consulting a registered tax agent for precise assessments. This calculator assumes a single individual with no dependants.

Australia's Free Pay Calculator for 2025-2026

Our Australian pay calculator helps you understand exactly how much of your salary you take home after tax. Whether you earn $50,000 or $200,000, you can see your annual, monthly, fortnightly, weekly and daily take-home pay calculated using the official ATO PAYG withholding rates for the 2025-2026 financial year.

The calculator accounts for Australian income tax brackets (including the Stage 3 tax cuts), the 2% Medicare levy with low-income thresholds, the 12% superannuation guarantee from 1 July 2025, the Low Income Tax Offset (LITO) of up to $700, and HECS/HELP student loan repayments under the new marginal repayment system with the $67,000 threshold.

Contractors and casual workers can use the daily pay calculator to quickly see their after-tax earnings per day. Simply enter your annual gross salary, select "Daily" from the pay frequency dropdown, and get an instant breakdown. All calculations use the ATO's NAT 1004 Schedule 1 PAYG withholding coefficients — the same formulas your employer uses to calculate your payslip.

How is Australian income tax calculated?

Australia uses a progressive tax system where different portions of your income are taxed at different rates. For the 2025-2026 financial year, the first $18,200 is tax-free, income from $18,201 to $45,000 is taxed at 16%, $45,001 to $135,000 at 30%, $135,001 to $190,000 at 37%, and anything above $190,000 at 45%. On top of this, most residents pay a 2% Medicare levy.

What changed with the Stage 3 tax cuts?

The revised Stage 3 tax cuts, effective from 1 July 2024, reduced the second bracket from 19% to 16%, consolidated the middle brackets into a single 30% rate up to $135,000, and raised the 37% and 45% thresholds. These changes continue into 2025-2026, with a further reduction to 15% on the $18,201-$45,000 bracket legislated for 1 July 2026.

How much superannuation does my employer pay?

From 1 July 2025, the superannuation guarantee rate is 12% of your ordinary time earnings, paid by your employer into your super fund on top of your salary. The maximum super contribution base is $62,500 per quarter for 2025-2026. Some salary packages include super — use the "Salary includes super" toggle in our calculator to see the difference.
